5 Social Media Tips for Mompreneurs

Firstly, what is a Mompreneur? A mompreneur describes a woman who sets up and runs her own business, alongside caring for her children. Being a mom is a full-time job. You don’t get days off for being sick or receive any special benefits AND you have to deal with one, two, or perhaps even more, very demanding bosses. Running your own business at the same time can leave you feeling like you just don’t have enough hours in the day to get everything done, and the last thing you may be thinking about is posting on your social media platforms.

As a mompreneur myself, I spend my days entertaining my son and chasing after him to make sure that he’s eaten enough, while constantly checking in on my phone to address work emails, converse with colleagues, and monitor client accounts. In this day and age, one of the quickest, easiest and most affordable ways to grow your online business is through social media. If you are setting up or running your own business, then an online presence is key to spreading the word about your company and garnering attention from potential clients or customers. Here are some of our top social media tips for busy mompreneurs, from our own team of mompreneurs at Skyfall Blue:

1) Make it official

The Facebook or Instagram page that you are using to promote your business should be an official Business Page, not a personal one. Even if your business is mom/parent related, start a separate account just for your business. This not only gives your business more credibility, but it also offers you the opportunity to conduct contests and giveaways, if needed (under Facebook’s rules of conduct, you cannot promote a contest from your personal page).

2) Mompreneurs Engagement

Show your clients exactly what it is that makes your business special, unique and stand out from the crowd! One of the biggest benefits of social media is being able to directly engage with your audience, so make sure that you are creating meaningful conversations around your brand. Bring life to your social media profiles by showcasing behind-the-scenes videos, starting a Facebook Live conversation, or respond quickly and personally to any customer queries. This aspect of social media management can be exhausting, so try carving out a few hours during naptime or after your wee ones go to bed to tackle engagement.

3) Pictures and videos

Data shows that social media posts with images or videos are much more likely to be viewed and engaged with. Create a cohesive brand story with your imagery by choosing a consistent colour scheme, text, or image style. This way, your followers will immediately be able to recognize a post that you have created as they are scrolling through social media. We love using Canva to create stylish and impactful visual social media posts. And yes… photos of kids, dogs and food are still some of the most popular online!

4) Scheduling tools

If you are a mom who is also an entrepreneur, then you know better than anyone how crucial time management is and how important it is to find online tools to help save you time and manage your workload more efficiently. Using an online platform such as Hootsuite, Planoly, Buffer, Tailwind or Sprout Social will allow you to schedule posts for weeks, or even months, in advance. Explore these tools and decide which one best suit your needs, depending on the social platforms your business uses.

5) Mompreneurs Analytics

There is no point in spending time carefully creating posts, scheduling them, and engaging with your audience, if you don’t know how well they are performing with your followers. Social platforms make it easy for you to view your business page’s analytics to see which posts are performing the best, including those with the biggest reach and best engagement. Make sure you are frequently checking your analytics so the facts and figures can better inform your social media marketing moving forwards. This will save you so much time in the long run so you can spend more of your time with your kids.

With a little bit of planning, and by using some effective online tools, you can create engaging and lively social media accounts that will compliment your online business and grow your brand recognition.
