10 Tips For Writing Your Own Business Blogs

Content is king in the digital marketing world. However, content can be very expensive, especially if you are a new or small business trying to keep up with your well-established content-producing competitors. While outsourcing content creation for everything from your website, to your social media, to your blog itself, can be a great solution to save time, we understand that occasionally the cost is simply too high. So, we sat down with our esteemed Skyfall Blue team of bloggers and asked them to go public with their top ten tips for writing your own business blogs.

10 Tips For Writing Your Own Business Blogs

1) Spend the majority of your time on the title

Only 2/10 people actually read the entire article, though many will click that Share button nonetheless. Your title and your headline are what really draw readers in and encourage content shares.

2) Teach something

The amount of content available on the internet is endless. Make your content stand out by clearly and succinctly teaching your audience something that will genuinely help them and their business in the long run.

3) List it

People are most likely to click on articles that include numbers (see our own title). Numbered lists make it easy for readers to determine the purpose of the article (and the value to them) within seconds.

4) Search Engine Optimization

Determine what keywords your target audience are searching for online, and use those keywords both in your title and throughout the article.

5) Know Your Audience

Resist the temptation to just randomly populate your blog. Rather, think long and hard about who your audience is, what kind of information they are searching for on the internet, and then write your blog directly to them.

6) Go Beyond Words

Whether you choose to integrate charts, tables, infographics, videos or images, a blog is instantly deemed more click-worthy when the visual stimulus is strong and dynamic.

7) Keep It Short and Sweet

The ideal blog ranges between 400 and 1000 words. Anything beyond that risks losing your readers attention. Pre-read your blog before publishing to your website and ensure that it can be read, from start to finish, within ten minutes.

8) Edit Your Blog

There is nothing worse that continuous grammar, spelling and structural errors on a blog. Have a friend, colleague or even your kids read your blog for obvious mistakes before hitting that Publish button.

9) Post Regularly

Ideally, post a blog once a week. This will increase the amount of visitors to your website on a regular basis (which means that keeping your website up-to-date is of equal importance).

10) Finish with a Call To Action

Perhaps just as important as the title, your Call to Action is what takes your blog from good to great. Determine the purpose of your blog and add a hyperlinked call to action at the end of the article. Some of the most common examples of Call to Action phrases include: Sign Up Now, Email Us, Visit Our Website, Register Today, Buy Now, Learn More, Get Your Free E-book Now, Join Our Free Trial, Become a Member, Enter To Win and Join Our Mailing List.
