Top 5 Reasons Bloggers Quit Blogging and How to Avoid Them – Part 1

quit blogging

We’ve all been there. We’ve got great intention of launching our own blogs in the hopes that if we build, they shall come. We thought we’d write brilliant posts and we’d write them frequently. We thought we’ve got lots of interesting things to say that people should stop whatever they are doing in their day and listen and our pageviews will skyrocket in no time.

Wait, how come no one left a comment, let alone read, your newest blog post on your “2012 BEST VACATION EVER”?

The harsh truth is, mere passion alone is not going to cut it. There are many factors that negatively affect blogging and besides, even passion dies or fizzles out at some point.

So here are top 5 reasons why people quit blogging and how to avoid them.

blogging 101

1.    Money, Money, Money

If money is the main and only reason you are blogging, you may want to think about it again. While the goal of making money is not a dishonorable one – the whole world wants money, making that the be-all, end-all of your blog is not going to be sustainable.

Is it impossible to make money from blogging? No, of course not but don’t get caught up in the numbers game as it will only serve to discourage you from going on.

How to avoid it: Find other purpose for your blog. Blog because you have an amazing talent that you want to share with others, whether it’s in writing, photography, illustrations, arts and craft. Do realize that only hard work and consistent efforts will bring income.

2.    Keeping up with the Joneses

Did you know that nowadays, an official term: Facebook Envy has been coined, which has caused quite an alarm amongst Psychologists?

“Facebook Envy” is when you look at the profiles of your friends and colleagues and fear that they are living better, much more exciting lives than you are. You are green with envy yet you can’t stop clicking obsessively through photos of their beautiful wedding, their dream home, fun vacations and gorgeous wardrobe. They just seem to have the perfect lives, don’t they?

It’s the same in blogging; some of us tend to compare ourselves to more established, more popular blogs who always seem to get brand sponsorship, advertisers and gets featured in magazines and television and genuinely feel bad that our ad spaces remain blank.

How to avoid it: Look at other blogs for inspiration not envy. Find your niche and stay true to your own voice and be consistent. Sooner or later, when followers get to know you better and can expect regular posts from you, they’ll keep coming back for more.

3.    Small Fish in a BIG Blog Pond

In blogging as in IRL (In Real Life), there are moments when we feel insignificant. How can little small me make a difference in this big world?  Yes, the world of blogging is as vast as the universe but it doesn’t mean you cannot carve your own space in it. There’s plenty of room for more and trust me, the market is not as saturated as you may think.

How to avoid it: Going back to point #2, find your niche, what is special about you and your blog and keep doing it. For example, instead of just becoming yet another Fashion Blogger, become a Fashion Blogger who specializes in Vintage or Retro Fashion. Why be a small fish in a big pond if you can be a big fish in a small pond. Patience, Grasshopper… your time will come.

What about you, have you thought about quitting your blog and calling it a day? Stay tuned for the last two of the TOP 5 REASONS BLOGGERS QUIT BLOGGING AND HOW TO AVOID THEM – PART 2 .
